Circular Economy - Promotion of sustainable production and consumption patterns in Ukraine

Ukraine is a priority partner country within the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) and the Eastern Partnership (EaP).

In the context of the Association Agreement Ukraine is aiming for closer economic integration with the EU and to approximate its legislation to that of the EU in a broad range of areas, including environment, climate and ozone layer protection.

In June 2022, EU took the historic decision to grant Ukraine the EU candidate country status.

Ukraine is actively working on implementing the principles of a circular economy, which is an important element of the European Green Deal. This includes initiatives to reduce waste, increase recycling and reuse of materials, and support environmental technologies and innovations.

Challenges

Ukraine confronts the ongoing challenge of Russian aggression, which has ravaged regions, displaced populations, and strained resources. Resolving this conflict is paramount for fostering a climate conducive to economic revitalization and sustainable development.

The development and implementation of the circular economy strategy and action plan enable Ukraine to move forward towards the further development.

While its economy adheres to a predominantly linear model, embracing a circular economy ethos aligned with European integration heralds a path toward sustained growth, stability, and affluence.
